INFORMATION
Requirements
for membership
AIPAM
was established in 1995 as an organisation for Naval Architects and Marine
Engineers engaged in the profession of surveyors and technical consultants
in the marine casualty field.
The Association has been officially recognised by the Italian Government.
AIPAM is an active member of FEMAS, the Federation of European Maritime
Associations of Surveyors and Consultants, a body which was formed to
raise and maintain the standards of marine surveyors throughout Europe.
The Association comprises: Honorary Members, Members and Associate Members.
Candidates must fulfill the following requisites:
- Shall
be citizens of one of the European Community countries.
- Shall
reside permanently in Italy.
- Shall
hold a University Degree in Naval and/or Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
at an Italian University, or an equivalent academic qualification obtained
at a foreign university body, legally recognized by the country's government
and by the Italian government in accordance with the reciprocity criteria
in force and equivalence of academic titles.
- Shall
have passed the State Examination or, for those who have obtained the
educational title as at the previous item at a foreign university, equivalent
examination giving qualification to practise the profession in Italy.
- Shall
exercise the profession of naval architect / marine engineer individually
or within a professional association in exclusive or prevalent manner,
provided that such possible secondary activity is not deontologically
incompatible.
- Shall
have acquired at least ten years' uninterrupted working activity in
the naval / maritime technical field, of which at least five as independent
surveyors.
- Shall
be registered in the Role of the Order of Engineers and hold the requisites
necessitating registering with the CNPAIALP (Cassa Nazionale di Previdenza
e Assistenza per gli Ingegneri e gli Architetti Liberi Professionisti
National Pension and Assistance Fund for Independent Engineers and Architects).
Associate Members shall be those meeting the above requisites with the
exception of the minimum period of activity, but who practise their activity
in continuative manner within the office of a full Member.
Scope
of Activities:
Members
and associated members offer the following areas of activities:
Ship's hull and machinery damage surveys.
Marine casualty investigations.
Ship's structural condition surveys.
Design and supervision of ship new buildings, conversions and repair works.
Yachts design and supervision.
- Technical
advice to ship operators, to the legal profession, to the Court of Justice
and others.
- Consultancy
services and supervision of salvage operations.
- Pre-purchase
inspections of ships and ships' commercial valuations
- Technical
arbitrations.
Aims
of the Association
The formation
an organisation for Naval Architects/Marine Engineers practising the profession,
be it individually or in association, of surveyors and technical consultants
in the field of maritime casualties concerning ships, floating craft,
off shore structures, fixed and mobile port installations, engines, marine
systems and machinery, etc. which deals with taking all action and initiative
necessary for:
- The promotion
and guarantee of the highest degree of professionality in its Members.
- The promotion
and safeguard of the professional image of the naval architect-marine
engineer-consultant-surveyor.
- The promotion
of the study of the circumstances and causes of maritime casualties,
with the purpose of putting forward suggestions for adopting suitable
methods of prevention.
- The
promotion and propagation in the fields of maritime activities and with
civil bodies the awareness of the importance of the marine surveyor's
role in maritime casualties.
- The promotion
and safeguard at all times of the mutual interests of its Members.
